Arts and Culture

AC 250 | Language, Literacy, Art, and Music (3 units)

This course will explore the rich interplay between music, art, movement, language, and literacy in early childhood. Students will develop practical strategies for incorporating language and literacy activities into their teaching through the joyful mediums of song, dance, art, and literacy activities with children and families.

History/Ethnic Studies

SBS 282 | Exploring U.S. History Through Children's Literature (3 units)

This course will focus on US History through the lens of children's literature. Students will explore the economic, political, and social development of the US through multiple and diverse perspectives, including theoretical and practical implications of culture, ethnicity, stereotyping, social identity, and bias as they apply to young children, families, programs, classrooms, and teaching.

Quantitative Reasoning

SIQR 260 | Mathematics for Early Childhood Educators (3 units)

This course explores foundational theory, methods, and strategies for effectively teaching mathematics in diverse early childhood education settings. Additionally, students will learn about research-based strategies and activities that can be used to further support multilingual learners and children with diverse abilities as they acquire knowledge in math and science. Resource materials for these curriculum areas that cater to each child’s level of knowledge, skill, and proficiency will be presented. The course introduces concepts aligned with state frameworks and standards.

CF 252 | Early Relational Health (3 units)

This course delves into the study of Early Relational Health (ERH), a multi-disciplinary field that emphasizes the significance of early relationships and their enduring impacts on individual and societal well-being. Rooted in psychology, neuroscience, and social science, this course explores the complex interplay between developing brains, caregiver relationships, and environmental contexts.
